Frequently Asked Questions

What is plastic garden edging?

Plastic garden edging is a lightweight, flexible border strip used to create clean edges between lawn, garden beds, pebbled areas and paths. It keeps mulch in place and stops grass creeping where you don’t want it.

What is composite edging?

Composite edging is typically made from a blend of materials (often recycled plastic plus fillers) for improved strength and weather resistance. It gives you a more rigid, tidy edge compared to very thin plastic strips.

Is plastic garden edging durable outdoors?

Good-quality plastic garden edging is UV-stable and built for outdoor use. It won’t rot like timber and doesn’t rust. It’s a low-maintenance solution if you want neat lines without heavy materials.

Can I create curves with composite edging?

Yes. Many types of composite edging and plastic edging are flexible enough to bend smoothly around trees, garden beds and feature areas. You can also run them in long straight lines for a modern, structured look.

How do I install plastic garden edging?

It’s easy to install plastic or composite edging - we recommend heading to our How-to Guides page and following on with our video and written instructions. At a simple level you can generally install any plastic edging by doing the following -  simply lay out your desired edge, cut the plastic garden edging to length, and secure it with pegs or stakes provided. Make sure it sits at the right height to retain mulch or pebbles, and backfill on both sides so it doesn’t lean.

Will this edging keep mulch and stones in place?

Yes. Both plastic garden edging and composite edging act like a barrier to help contain bark, soil and landscaping pebbles. This keeps borders crisp and reduces spill-over onto lawn and paths.

Is this edging suitable for renters or DIYers?

Definitely. Plastic garden edging is easy to cut, light to handle and doesn’t require concreting in. That makes it ideal for quick weekend projects or temporary garden layouts you might want to change later.
